Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine that studies the digestive system and provides diagnosis and treatment of its disorders. The digestive tract is a tubular structure which extends from the mouth to the anus passing through the stomach and intestines. Food that you ingest is propelled through the digestive system where it is broken down into energy, raw materials and waste products. Digestion is aided by the secretion of enzymes and hormones from supporting organs such as the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Disorders of the digestive system include disorders with different parts of the digestive tract as well as its supporting organs.
